About

MKVToolNix is a set of tools for creating, inspecting and modifying Matroska media files. Its graphical interface and command-line utilities let you combine supported tracks, examine container details, extract streams and edit supported headers and chapters.

Features

  • Multiplex supported video, audio, subtitle and attachment tracks into MKV.
  • Inspect Matroska structure and track information.
  • Extract supported tracks and other contained data.
  • Edit supported container properties and chapter information.
  • Queue and manage repeated multiplexing jobs in the GUI.

Compatibility and setup

The official Mac downloads require macOS 13 Ventura or later. This artifact is the Apple Silicon arm64 DMG of upstream102.0, Mac packaging revision2. The publisher explains that the revision suffix distinguishes repackaging of the same upstream release. These Mac DMGs are community-built distributions linked from the official site; choose a compatible architecture.

Open the GUI, add source files, choose the tracks and destination, then review the job settings before starting multiplexing. Output files need sufficient free disk space. MKVToolNix is primarily a container and stream-management toolkit, not a general video-transcoding editor; codec compatibility still matters when combining streams.

The project code is GPL version2 licensed, with separate notices for bundled components and artwork. Preserve original media until you have checked the result, including subtitle and audio synchronization. Header edits and automated post-job actions can change files or run selected programs, so review those settings before applying them to important material.
