Roboto Mono
Christian Robertson · Monospaced Roboto typeface designed for screen readability and distinct code characters, with variable upright and italic fonts.
Roboto Mono is a font you can install on a Mac.
About
Roboto Mono is the monospaced member of the Roboto type family, designed by Christian Robertson. The official Google Fonts description emphasizes readability on screens and adjusts glyph shapes to fit fixed-width spacing: narrow letters gain serifs, wide letters are adjusted in weight, and curved capitals use straighter sides related to Roboto Condensed.
The family gives special attention to software source code. Digit 1, lowercase l and uppercase I are differentiated, as are zero and uppercase O. Curly braces have exaggerated points, periods and commas are made easier to identify, and common operator symbols are adjusted in scale and weight. These are documented design choices, not promises that every editor or terminal uses the font automatically.
The Google Fonts metadata records upright and italic variable TTF files, a weight axis from 100 to 700, and Cyrillic, Greek, Latin and Vietnamese subsets. It identifies the SIL Open Font License and the official RobotoMono source repository. Check that repository and the bundled license before redistributing or modifying font files.
Install with brew install --cask font-roboto-mono, then select Roboto Mono in your editor, terminal or other application's font preferences. The cask installs the upright and italic variable fonts into the user's Library/Fonts directory. It fetches the ofl/robotomono directory from the moving Google Fonts main branch and records the unversioned value latest, not an immutable numbered upstream release. No exact-version artifact size or numbered-release changes are asserted for that moving snapshot.
