Pretendard
orioncactus · A multilingual typeface based on Inter, Source Han Sans and M PLUS 1p, with nine weights and variable-font support for cross-platform typography.
About
Pretendard is a modern multilingual typeface designed for cross-platform products. The official project combines foundations from Inter, Source Han Sans and M PLUS 1p and provides nine weights as well as variable-font support. It is a font family, not a standalone macOS application.
This Homebrew package
Install with brew install --cask font-pretendard. The recorded cask downloads Pretendard 1.3.9 and installs nine static OpenType fonts in the user Fonts directory: Thin, ExtraLight, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold, Bold, ExtraBold and Black. The project also offers separate JP, Std and GOV families; those should not be confused with this exact cask.
Desktop and web use
Use the installed fonts in applications that support selecting a typeface. For websites, the official documentation describes static web fonts, dynamic subsets, variable fonts and variable dynamic subsets through jsDelivr, cdnjs and UNPKG. Those web deployment choices are separate from the static OTF files installed by Homebrew. The Next.js example uses a local variable WOFF2 font and warns that an explicit weight range is needed to avoid incorrect weight rendering in WebKit-based browsers.
License and visual assets
Pretendard is distributed under the SIL Open Font License. Consult the license for modification and redistribution conditions, including restrictions on selling the font by itself. This listing does not claim a standalone app icon or GUI screenshot: the official documentation uses font specimens and typography examples, which are not screenshots of a Mac application.
