Maple Mono
subframe7536 · An open-source variable monospace font with rounded glyphs, refined italics and programming ligatures for editors and terminals.
About
Maple Mono is an open-source monospace typeface designed for coding. Version 7 redesigns more than half of the glyphs and provides variable-font files with continuously adjustable weight. Rounded corners, distinctive symbols and cursive italic forms give it a different appearance from conventional programming fonts.
Coding typography
The project includes smart programming ligatures and configurable OpenType features. Editors and terminals must support the relevant font features to display ligatures. The official documentation explains feature selection and custom builds; applications differ in the controls they expose.
This Homebrew package
brew install --cask font-maple-mono installs the regular and italic variable TTF files from MapleMono-Variable.zip. This exact cask is the base font, not the separately packaged Nerd Font or Chinese variants. Do not assume the base archive includes their additional icon or CJK character sets. Choose the installed Maple Mono family in your editor or terminal's font settings after installation.
Variants and customization
Upstream offers separate NF builds for Nerd Font icons and CN builds for Chinese/Japanese coverage. The stable V7 documentation says CN builds do not support variable format. Normal variants provide less distinctive glyph shapes. Source-based customization can enable or disable font features and adjust build options.
Version and licensing
The recorded version is 7.9, distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The stable V7 branch documents this release; the variable development branch currently describes unreleased V8, whose new features should not be attributed to 7.9. Maple Mono is a font, not a standalone Mac application. The attached official specimen illustrates code typography rather than a Mac GUI.
