BetterAudio
Artur (rokartur) · Per-app volume, equalization and audio-device control from the macOS menu bar.
BetterAudio is a Utilities app for Mac. It needs macOS 14 or later.
About
Overview
BetterAudio is a native macOS menu-bar utility by Artur (rokartur) for controlling audio without repeatedly opening System Settings. Adjust each application's volume independently, mute a noisy app, boost a quiet source, and switch between speakers, headphones, microphones and audio interfaces. Per-app equalization and output routing let different apps use different sound settings.
Features and limits
The official product documentation also describes keyboard shortcuts, Apple Shortcuts integration, priority-device behavior and volume control for compatible DDC/CI monitor speakers. Monitor control depends on the display, cable and adapter exposing DDC/CI. The current product offers local transcription options; the Whisper workflow may require whisper.cpp, while Apple-native options depend on platform support. These are current product capabilities, not a claim that every feature was introduced in 26.6.2.
Core use is free; a one-time Support License unlocks advanced capabilities such as Multi-Output and Audio Statistics. A premium trial is available. Advanced processing should be tested with your particular DAW, interface or live-monitoring setup. This is an audio-control utility, not a recording workstation.
Installation
Requires macOS 14.6 or newer according to the official FAQ, with Intel and Apple Silicon support. With Homebrew already installed, run brew install --cask betteraudio. Alternatively download the official DMG, open it, drag BetterAudio.app to Applications, then launch it and use its menu-bar controls. Follow any permission prompts shown by macOS and the app; an additional virtual audio driver is not needed for the core experience. Configure inputs, outputs and per-app levels before using advanced processing. Homebrew's recorded minimum is macOS 14; the FAQ's stricter 14.6 requirement is used here.

$ brew uninstall --cask \ betteraudioA regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.
$ brew uninstall --zap --cask \ betteraudio--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left.See which files are removed
