PHTV
Pham Hung Tien · Vietnamese input method for macOS with Telex, VNI, text snippets and optional clipboard history.
PHTV is a Utilities app for Mac. It needs macOS 14 or later.
About
PHTV (Precision Hybrid Typing Vietnamese) is an open-source native macOS menu-bar input utility. Its Vietnamese typing engine runs locally. It supports Telex, VNI and Simple Telex, multiple character encodings, spelling options, word restoration and per-application language settings. Macros and dynamic text snippets support reusable text; optional clipboard history and an emoji/GIF picker extend everyday input. Sparkle updates and online GIF/sticker searches use the network; local typing is not uploaded according to the project.
Installation and first use
Requires macOS 14 or later; separate DMGs support Apple Silicon and Intel. Install using Homebrew, then launch PHTV:
brew install --cask phtv
open /Applications/PHTV.app
In System Settings > Keyboard > Edit Input Sources, disable automatic spelling correction, capitalization, predictive text and smart substitutions to avoid conflicts. Open PHTV and grant the single permission requested by onboarding: Accessibility on macOS 26 and earlier, or Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27+. Choose Vi in the menu bar; Control + Shift switches Vietnamese/English and can be customized. Unicode is suitable for most modern apps. Clipboard history is optional and disabled by default.
