介紹

IINA is a free, community-maintained media player designed for macOS. It uses mpv for playback and combines broad video/audio support with Mac-native controls. It suits people watching local videos, listening to music, reviewing subtitle tracks or playing compatible network media.

Install and use

Install brew install --cask iina, or download the official DMG and copy IINA.app to Applications. Open a media file, drag it onto the player, or use the URL-opening command for a supported network source. The cask also links the app's iina-cli binary as iina. Use the app's controls and Settings to choose audio/subtitle tracks, tune playback and configure keyboard/gesture bindings. The stable build is distinct from beta/nightly builds, which can be less reliable.

Systems and platform support

IINA1.5.0 officially requires macOS11+ on Intel or macOS12+ on Apple Silicon. The current Homebrew Cask declares macOS12+; the publisher's direct Intel download and Homebrew installation requirements therefore differ. The1.5.0 announcement warns that macOS11 support is expected to end in a following release, not that it has already ended in1.5.0. IINA is a Mac application: no official Windows, Linux, iOS or Android build is established by its site/repository.

The official1.5.0 DMG is113,048,935 bytes, confirmed by HTTP Content-Length and its GitHub asset metadata. Download size does not measure installed libraries, caches or media files. No fixed RAM minimum was confirmed in the official material retrieved. Codec, resolution, HDR and hardware-decoding behavior depend on the media, display and Mac capabilities.

Dependencies, conflicts and integrations

mpv and FFmpeg underpin the supplied application; a separate Homebrew mpv/FFmpeg installation is not required by this cask. Its metadata declares no extra formula dependency or explicit cask conflict. Xcode and build-library instructions in the repository concern compiling IINA, not running the downloaded application. Plugins or online services can add their own tools, network access, permissions and accounts; local playback does not require those integrations. IINA does not grant access to subscription streams or bypass a provider's access rules.

Recent updates address unsafe iina:// URL handling. Use a current stable build when opening external links. Inspect plugin permissions and configuration because installed extensions can add functionality beyond basic playback. Homebrew zap removes IINA support data, preferences, logs, caches, recent-document entries and related browser-extension data; back up settings or history you need before cleanup. This does not mean deletion of your media collection.

Accounts, price and licensing

Core IINA playback is free and does not require an IINA account or subscription. Optional subtitle/online-media services can have separate accounts, fees and terms. IINA is GPLv3 free/open-source software; bundled libraries, plugins and media retain their respective licenses. Commercial use must comply with applicable licenses and content rights, and redistribution or modified builds can carry GPL obligations. The project website states that IINA includes no tracking or telemetry.
