Highball is a native Mac application for running supported Windows games on Apple Silicon. It prepares Wine-based environments and supported graphics translation layers, and uses an open compatibility database to help select game-specific settings and engines.

Requirements and setup

The official project requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later, and prompts for Rosetta2 if needed. Some games or engine paths need a newer macOS; consult the game's database entry instead of applying the app minimum to every game. Initial setup downloads additional engines and store clients, so allow network access, time and substantially more disk space than the small app DMG.

Open the app, start its guided setup and select the store or Windows program you own. The publisher notes that engine download and first Steam startup can take time and shows progress; a stalled setup can resume after relaunch. Inspect the game's engine, graphics and compatibility information before starting it. Games with incompatible kernel anti-cheat or publisher blocks may not run.

Highball is free and GPL-3.0 licensed. Game purchases, store accounts and bundled third-party components have their own terms. Use legitimate game copies and back up saves before changing environments. Optional Discord activity sharing is off by default in the documented release; enabling it changes what activity is shared. Logs and issue reports can contain launch and configuration details, so review them before publishing.
