介紹

VCMI is an open-source engine for Heroes of Might & Magic III. It extends the original game's possibilities rather than supplying a free copy of its commercial content. You must own the original game data files to use it; the VCMI team explicitly does not support piracy.

Playing and customization

The official project highlights high-resolution interfaces, a creature window and stack queue, along with mod support for additional towns, creatures, heroes, artifacts and spells. Its launcher provides configuration and downloads mods from the project's server. A global lobby lets players find others for multiplayer games. VCMI is available on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

macOS installation

Install the desktop application with brew install --cask vcmi, then follow the project's player documentation to import your legally owned Heroes III data. The recorded Homebrew release is 1.7.5, with separate Apple-silicon and Intel DMGs. This listing's measured download size refers to the exact 1.7.5 Apple-silicon DMG, not the game data or installed disk usage.

Recorded release

Version 1.7.5 addresses crashes in random-map setup, mod updates, save loading, animation, shutdown and several interface edge cases. It also corrects area-attack targeting and server-port saving. Upstream states that saved games from 1.6 can be loaded in 1.7. Only one version is currently recorded by this backend; other upstream releases are not substituted for missing catalog history.

VCMI is maintained by the VCMI team. It is not associated with or supported by Ubisoft Entertainment; the original game and trademarks remain their owners' property.
