Maccy
Alex Rodionov and contributors · Lightweight, open-source Mac clipboard history with fast search, keyboard selection, pinned items, previews and controls for ignoring copied content.
Descripción
Maccy is Alex Rodionov's lightweight, open-source clipboard history manager for macOS. It is designed for writers, developers and anyone who repeatedly reuses copied text or images without needing a large productivity suite.
Features
- Keep and quickly search previous clipboard contents through a native menu-bar popup.
- Select history items with keyboard shortcuts or the mouse.
- Copy, paste or paste without formatting, and pin frequently used items.
- Preview text and images; version2.7 adds a slideout preview and image OCR-text copying.
- Delete individual entries or clear history, including separate controls for pinned items.
- Pause recording, skip the next copy and ignore designated pasteboard types.
Installation and first use
Install brew install --cask maccy, or download the official release zip, extract Maccy.app and move it to Applications. Launch it and use Shift+Command+C or the menu-bar icon to open history. Type to search; Enter selects a copy, Option+Enter pastes, and Option+Shift+Enter pastes without formatting. Preferences lets you customize behavior and shortcuts. For automatic paste, enable Paste automatically and grant Maccy Accessibility access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. Basic history selection is distinct from that automated paste permission.
System requirements and platforms
The current official README and Homebrew cask require macOS Sonoma14 or newer. The cask supports both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs using the same app archive and declares no extra formula dependency. Maccy is macOS-only; the project does not list official Windows, Linux, Android or iOS versions. No fixed RAM or installed-storage minimum is stated in the retrieved requirements. The official2.7.1 zip is4,709,233 bytes; installed storage includes the app and retained history.
Privacy, dependencies and conflicts
The official website states that history stays on your computer. Maccy ignores designated confidential, transient and autogenerated clipboard types; its configurable defaults also include types used by supported password managers. This does not guarantee that every secret copied by every application is excluded. Pause recording before copying material you do not want retained, or ignore specific copy types. Option-clicking the menu icon toggles recording; Option+Shift-click skips the next copy. Universal Clipboard copies can be ignored by adding com.apple.is-remote-clipboard to ignored pasteboard types.
Homebrew declares no named cask conflict. Another clipboard manager or an overlapping system keyboard shortcut can interfere with your workflow. Check macOS Keyboard Shortcuts if a combination is already reserved. macOS secure input can block certain character-producing shortcuts in password fields; the official FAQ suggests using an appropriate alternative combination. Optional Karabiner-Elements remapping is a workaround, not a required dependency. A manual Maccy.app installation can occupy the same Applications path. Optional Homebrew zap deletes the app container, preferences and related data and removes its login item; preserve any history or settings you need first.
Accounts, costs and license
Maccy is free, open-source software under the MIT license. The GitHub/Homebrew distribution does not require a paid subscription or user account. The official site also offers App Store and donation/download purchase routes; their checkout terms are separate from the free release. Use maccy.app or the official p0deje/Maccy repository for downloads. No cloud account is needed for the local clipboard-history workflow.
