Beschreibung
Zoom Workplace is Zoom's communication and collaboration application for meetings, messaging and connected work. It suits remote teams, educators, organizations and individuals who need video conversations and shared work across devices. This cask installs the standard Mac client; Zoom Rooms, VDI and the IT-admin distribution are separate products/distributions.
Features
- Video/audio meetings, invitations, participant controls and screen sharing.
- Team Chat and connected collaboration tools, subject to account settings.
- Meeting recording, captions and transcripts where enabled and entitled.
- Whiteboards, documents and tasks for work around meetings.
- Optional AI Companion and translation capabilities governed by plans, region and administrator controls.
- Zoom Phone, webinars and Contact Center integrations when separately licensed.
Installation and first use
Install brew install --cask zoom, or obtain the Mac package from Zoom's Download Center, choosing Apple Silicon or Intel. The PKG installer installs zoom.us.app and supporting updater components; administrator authorization may be required. Launch Zoom Workplace and sign in with your account or organization SSO to host meetings and access account features. Joining an invitation can be possible without an account, but hosts can require authentication and restrict admission.
Allow macOS microphone/camera access when using those features, and screen-recording permission for screen sharing. Test devices and audio before a meeting. On managed Macs, follow the organization's distribution and update policy rather than replacing a centrally managed build.
System and platform support
The current official desktop requirements list macOS10.15+ and Windows10/11; Windows10 S Mode is unsupported. Mac downloads support Apple Silicon and Intel. Supported Linux releases include Ubuntu20.04+, Mint20+, RHEL/Oracle/CentOS9+, Fedora32+, OpenSUSE16+, Debian11+, 64-bit Arch and other distributions with GCC9.4+. These are publisher platform requirements; the Mac Cask does not install the other-platform clients.
The desktop hardware table specifies a dual-core2GHz processor and4GB RAM minimum, recommending quad-core2.5GHz and16GB RAM. Linux needs OpenGL2.0-capable graphics. Workload and feature requirements can be higher. A broadband connection, speakers and microphone are needed for audio participation; a camera is needed to send video. Network bandwidth varies by resolution and sharing mode; group720p guidance is2.6Mbps upload/1.8Mbps download.
Separate mobile clients require iOS/iPadOS15+ or Android9+; the iOS Intune client requires16+. Browser access and visionOS have separate capability/support requirements. Older client versions are subject to Zoom's lifecycle minimum-version policy, not indefinite support.
The official Apple Silicon7.2.2.88465 PKG is216,365,102 bytes, verified by HTTP Content-Length. Installed components, recordings and caches need additional space.
Dependencies, conflicts and cleanup
The Cask explicitly conflicts with zoom-for-it-admins; do not install both distributions over one another. It declares no additional formula dependency. Some desktop features use automatically downloaded embedded web components; managed-device allowlisting or network policies can affect them. Connected calendars, apps, phone services and SSO need their own authorization/configuration.
Homebrew uninstall includes app, package receipts, updater/daemon components and process termination. Its zap list includes ~/ and ~/, which can contain local recordings, as well as preferences, logs and caches. Preserve recordings and needed data before choosing deep cleanup. Removing local software does not delete a Zoom account or cloud recordings.
Accounts, costs and licensing
The downloadable client is free; hosted-service capabilities depend on the host's license and account. A standalone Basic free account typically allows100 participants and limits meetings with participants to40minutes; paid plans and add-ons change capacity, duration and enabled features. Cloud recording, Phone, Contact Center and premium AI/translation are not all included merely by installing the app. Pricing and region availability can change; check your account's current entitlements.
Zoom Workplace is proprietary software/service under Zoom's applicable terms, not a GPL/MIT open-source client. Zoom publishes SDKs and examples separately; those repositories are not the complete desktop application's source repository. Organization administrators govern retention, recording, access and connected features. Obtain appropriate participant consent for recording and comply with applicable content/privacy obligations.
