Beschreibung

WhatsApp is Meta’s messaging and calling service. This cask installs the official native Mac desktop client, intended for people who want to continue personal or group conversations, calls and file sharing from their computer. It is separate from WhatsApp Business and third-party web wrappers.

Features

Sync conversations with a linked WhatsApp account and send text or voice messages.
Share photos, videos and documents in individual or group chats.
Make voice and video calls, including group calls where supported.
Use desktop notifications and a keyboard-oriented chat interface.
Personal messages and calls use end-to-end encryption; account, backup and optional service privacy rules should be reviewed separately.

Installation and setup

Install with brew install --cask whatsapp, or download the Mac app from the official website or Mac App Store. Open WhatsApp and follow its linked-device instructions using an existing WhatsApp account on your phone. The account is associated with a phone number. Internet access is required. Camera, microphone and notification permissions are needed only for the corresponding features. A managed network or region may restrict availability.

Requirements, dependencies and platforms

The recorded Homebrew cask declares macOS12 or later and Intel/Apple Silicon platform variants. It conflicts with whatsapp@beta and lists no additional formula dependencies. WhatsApp’s desktop help specifies macOS12.1 or newer, while another official download page still says11 or newer; use the stricter current app/help requirement and check the installer before installing on an older Mac. Minimum RAM and installed disk requirements were not established. Download archive size is not installed size.

WhatsApp also has Windows desktop and Android/iPhone applications, tablet support and WhatsApp Web. Their requirements and feature availability differ from the Mac cask. No official native Linux desktop installer was confirmed; browser access is a separate option. Do not infer Mac support or release changes from iPhone App Store metadata.

Accounts, cost and license

An existing WhatsApp account and phone number are needed for linking the desktop app. The regular personal messaging/calling service does not charge a subscription fee, but carrier/data charges can apply. Optional purchases, paid business services and other service offerings have separate conditions; the store lists in-app purchases. The client and service are proprietary and governed by WhatsApp’s terms and privacy policies. No public source repository for this official Mac app was confirmed.
