About
Mac Performance Monitor is a free, open-source native macOS application for live system readings and recorded performance history. Use its menu-bar readout, background recorder or main window independently. The official distribution requires an Apple-silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later and provides a Developer ID-signed, notarized installer.
Monitoring and investigation
Review CPU, memory, GPU, disk, network, battery and sensor information. Explorer aligns machine and process charts on a timeline so you can compare processes, pin a moment, inspect values and export visible data. Recorded history stays on your Mac. Missing readings and metrics that older logs never recorded are not reconstructed as real measurements.
Processes and alerts
Sort and filter processes, inspect their history, and group related applications and helpers. An optional approved helper provides broader process coverage. Alerts use observed changes such as continued swap growth or sustained process activity; growth alone is not proof of a memory leak. Disk Map scans readable files and folders to help investigate storage use. GPU bandwidth values are preview estimates, and Neural Engine counters depend on hardware, OS and helper availability.
Version 2.3.0 and AI integration
Build 279 adds temperature-unit preferences, screen-capture slowdown insights and a rebuilt Ask interface for macOS 27. Ask explains local recorded data using Apple's on-device model. The bundled read-only mpm command-line tool and MCP server support optional external AI-agent investigation; an external agent sends the data it reads to its own provider. Version 2.3.0 removes the older optional Qwen and DeepAnalyze downloads and their local worker, so those earlier preview choices should not be assumed available. Generated explanations can be wrong and are not a verified diagnosis.
Installation and privacy
Install the exact Homebrew cask or use the official release installer. Existing installations can check for updates through Sparkle. Monitoring history stays local and the project reports no usage telemetry; update checks, downloads and optional network tools still make network requests. Optional agent sharing should be evaluated separately from the app's local-recording behavior.
