About

Ilya Birman Typography Layout is an additional keyboard layout for macOS, designed to make less-common typographic symbols easier to enter. Its official instructions describe using the right Option (Alt) key with a key, and adding Shift when a symbol is shown in the upper part of a key. For example, the documented combinations produce angle quotation marks and the cent sign.

  • Adds a selectable keyboard layout rather than a separate typing application.
  • Supports Russian and English typography layouts, which can be added in keyboard input settings.
  • Uses right Option (Alt) combinations; some symbols also require Shift.

Install the cask with brew install --cask ilya-birman-typography-layout. The layout is installed as a macOS keyboard-layout bundle. After installation, reboot for it to take effect, then add and select the layout in keyboard input settings.

The supplied Homebrew package is for macOS. The official page also describes a Windows download, but that is separate from this cask.
