GenOffice
Genspark · Free, open-source AI office suite for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, Markdown and HTML, with local editing, conversions and your choice of AI provider.
GenOffice is a Office app for Mac. It needs macOS 12 or later.
About
GenOffice is Genspark's free, open-source office suite for macOS, Windows and Linux. Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF, Markdown and HTML share an AI panel. It opens and saves native ., . and . files; untouched parts are preserved byte-for-byte rather than rebuilding the entire document.
Features
- Docs supports styles, tables, headers, footers and tracked changes. AI edits can be reviewed as revisions and rolled back from per-turn snapshots.
- Sheets combines live formulas, charts, pivot tables, slicers, conditional formatting and formula tracing; AI answers can cite the cells used.
- Slides generates editable PowerPoint decks and supports masters, layouts, alignment guides and non-destructive cropping.
- PDF edits page text and images, not just cover-up annotations. PDF → Word / Excel / PowerPoint conversion runs locally; scanned pages use system OCR on macOS and Windows.
- Markdown offers a block editor with tables, code and Mermaid diagrams, saves plain
.and exports locally to Word. HTML offers a design-brief-led page builder, live preview, source editing and local Word export.md - Local SQLite full-text search covers file names, folders and document contents, including CJK text. Optional TypeSafe Jev reranks the top 20 local results.
- The bundled
genofficeCLI, agent skill and MCP server support document automation. Install an agent skill under Settings → Integrations, or connect an MCP client withgenoffice mcp.
Install and configure on macOS
Install Homebrew first if needed, then run:
brew install --cask genoffice
open -a GenOffice
Apple Silicon and Intel builds are available. The official README lists macOS 11+ for direct downloads; this Homebrew cask requires macOS 12+. The distributed app does not require a separate development toolchain.
In Settings → AI, select a model provider and enter its API key, or configure an OpenAI-compatible endpoint with its base URL and key, including a local model server. Supported choices include Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, OpenRouter and Atlas Cloud. Alternatively, sign in with Genspark to route supported model calls through its proxy without configuring your own key. Search and media providers have separate settings and keys under Settings → AI Media & Search. Ordinary file editing works offline; network-backed AI features require connectivity.
Privacy and licensing
Opening, editing, saving and converting documents happens on-device. AI requests go to the chosen provider; cloud search and media tools also use configured providers. Jev reranking is off by default: when enabled under AI Media & Search → Local file search, excerpts of the top 20 hits leave the device for scoring, but the local index does not. Its key is stored only on the device.
Official packaged builds send limited usage analytics by default. Disable reporting under Settings → General. According to the README, analytics excludes document contents, file names, file paths, account identity and email addresses; local processing is not a claim that all app traffic stays local. The apps are free under Apache-2.0, with the ee/ directory covered by a separate enterprise license.
