Amazon Corretto 11

Amazon Corretto 11 is a no-cost, production-ready distribution of OpenJDK 11 for developers and administrators whose applications, frameworks or build systems require Java 11. It supplies the JVM, javac and JDK tools rather than an IDE. Amazon tests Corretto for Java SE compatibility and publishes security, performance and reliability maintenance. Match the application's supported Java version: installing a JDK does not ensure a third-party application or native library works with it.

Mac installation and hardware

The exact Apple Silicon installer amazon-corretto-11.0.32.12.1-macosx-aarch64.pkg is 185,412,828 bytes, confirmed by the official download endpoint HEAD. The tagged 11.0.32.12.1 CHANGELOG identifies macOS 14.0+ as its build target for both aarch64 and x86_64. The generic Mac install guide is titled macOS 11 or later; this listing uses the stricter current release target rather than presenting that generic heading as current-build compatibility proof. Use the aarch64 package on Apple Silicon or the separate x86_64 package on Intel.

Run the official PKG installer and authorize system-wide installation when prompted. The guide places the JDK under /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/amazon-corretto-11.jdk/Contents/Home. Use /usr/libexec/java_home --verbose to inspect installed JVMs and set JAVA_HOME/PATH for the intended toolchain; an IDE or service may have a separate JVM configuration. Several Java major versions can coexist, but changing JAVA_HOME can change which version your builds use. No separate Java runtime is needed for the included JDK tools. Your application may also need Maven/Gradle, native libraries, databases, fonts or other dependencies.

The checked release, FAQ and installation material does not publish a numeric minimum RAM for every workload. JVM heap, compilation and the application determine usable memory and disk requirements; the installer size is not installed size or an application's total footprint. Check native library architecture and test your actual application before deployment.

License, fees and accounts

Corretto is distributed under GPL version 2 with the Classpath Exception, with third-party component notices. Amazon does not charge for its use or distribution; local JDK use does not require an AWS account or purchase of cloud services. Corretto's long-term maintenance is distinct from an application's own support contract, and the supported-platform/lifecycle policy can change. Permissions, network and privacy

The installer can need administrator authorization. Ordinary Java execution inherits the permissions of its user or service; untrusted Java programs are not made safe by using Corretto. They may access files, launch processes or contact networks according to their code and OS controls. Avoid running unknown JARs as administrator, limit service permissions and approve only expected macOS protected-folder prompts.

Downloading updates or dependencies needs a network connection. Local compilation and applications designed for offline work can use the JDK without logging into Amazon. Network requests from a Java application, dependency resolver or build plugin follow those components' behavior and policies; this is not a claim that all Java workloads are offline or free of telemetry. Logs, heap dumps and diagnostic recordings may expose application data or secrets, so review them before sending them to a support service.

Maintenance and risks

Apply security updates, test with your libraries and keep a rollback plan for production changes. The newest maintenance release contains time-zone data updates and macOS version metadata fixes; old Java 11 installations may have inaccurate time zones or missing security fixes. Do not confuse the JDK's permissive linking exception with permission to ignore third-party licenses. Removing the system JDK directory can break tools configured to that path, so verify dependent applications before uninstalling.
