Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac is a desktop presentation application for creating, editing and delivering slide decks. It serves students, teachers, business presenters and teams who need presentation design, speaker notes, charts, media and compatibility with PowerPoint files.

Presentations and delivery

Build slides from templates or your own layout using text, shapes, images, tables, charts, audio and video. Themes, transitions and animations support a consistent presentation, while speaker notes and Presenter View help deliver it. Save presentations locally and export supported formats such as PDF. Media, fonts, add-ins and advanced features can behave differently across Mac, Windows and web editions; check the final deck on the system used for delivery.

OneDrive or SharePoint storage enables cloud sharing, supported coauthoring and version history when you sign in with an eligible account and have access to the file. Local editing does not mean every feature needs cloud storage, but activation and some connected experiences require an internet connection. Cloud permissions, organizational policies and the selected Microsoft 365 plan affect collaboration. Downloading the desktop package does not grant access to someone else's files or organization.

License and accounts

The application download is not a free license to create and edit presentations. Activate it using an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription or a compatible licensed Office/PowerPoint edition distributed through Microsoft's installation route. Microsoft 365 plans that include only web applications do not automatically license the Mac desktop app. A perpetual purchase provides the features and upgrade rights of that edition rather than all future subscription features; organization volume licensing has its own activation method and terms.

The Mac App Store version of PowerPoint requires Microsoft 365 for activation. Perpetual and volume Office licenses are not compatible with the App Store build, so use the correct Microsoft distribution for those licenses. An Apple ID for obtaining an App Store download is not a substitute for Microsoft activation. Microsoft accounts or work/school accounts are used where required by the purchased license and connected services. Subscription, standalone purchase and business pricing vary by plan and region; installing this Cask does not purchase any of them.

Copilot and other premium connected features require an eligible license, account, service availability and organizational policy. The Office release notes state that Copilot features are available to Microsoft 365 Copilot-licensed users. Do not assume every paid PowerPoint or perpetual Office license includes every Copilot feature. Connected experiences can transmit presentation content to the relevant Microsoft service under its applicable terms and administrator controls.

Installation and compatibility

Install the microsoft-powerpoint Cask or Microsoft's official PowerPoint PKG, then activate the installed application. The recorded 16.113.26100421 installer is 1,093,746,593 bytes according to official HTTP HEAD; this is the package download size, not installed disk usage or the size of the complete Office suite. The Cask installs Microsoft PowerPoint.app and explicitly deselects the Microsoft AutoUpdate component in this PKG. That choice does not prove an already-installed AutoUpdate application is absent, and updates still need to be managed through the chosen installation channel.

This standalone Cask conflicts with microsoft-office and microsoft-office-businesspro. Choose the suite or individual application route intentionally rather than duplicating the same Office application. The Cask declares no numeric macOS minimum in its dependency data. Microsoft's current release notes require macOS 14 Sonoma or later to receive updates, and Office for Mac follows support for the three most recent major macOS versions. Older generic installation guidance mentioning Monterey is not a promise that the latest build remains supported there. The current Microsoft App Store listing also requires macOS 14.

Microsoft supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs subject to the supported macOS versions. These Mac packages are 64-bit; Windows and mobile editions are separate products. Installing and activation can require internet access and normal macOS installer authorization. Access to local presentation files, microphone/camera features or protected locations depends on the function you use and macOS permissions; ordinary slide editing does not require granting every privacy permission.

Files and operational considerations

Use trusted presentation files and add-ins. Macros and add-ins can run code or access services within the permissions and policies of their environment. Keep copies of important decks and check external links, embedded media, fonts and sharing permissions before distribution. The official Mac App Store promotional image illustrates presentation editing; it is not a capture of a specific installed build or proof that every depicted service is included with a license.
