紹介

Cursor is Anysphere's AI coding environment for developers and teams working with existing repositories or building new software. It combines a code editor with agent conversations and workflows that can inspect code, make changes and run project commands. Its desktop app is distinct from the separately installed Cursor Agent CLI, browser-based cloud experience and iOS companion.

Main features

  • Ask agents to explain a codebase, implement features, investigate bugs and update multiple files with project context.
  • Use Plan Mode to research a task and review a proposed plan before implementation.
  • Review generated diffs and run your own tests, type checks and builds.
  • Configure project rules, skills, hooks and MCP integrations to supply repeatable instructions and tools.
  • Work with local agents and, where available under your plan, cloud or remote-machine agents.
  • Use editor completions and chat alongside familiar code navigation, extensions and development tools.

Install and get started

On macOS, brew install --cask cursor installs Cursor.app and the cursor launcher. Open the app, sign in for AI services, select or open your project and review workspace permissions. The Homebrew launcher points to the app's bundled editor command; it is not the standalone cursor-agent binary. The app can update itself. Review generated diffs and project checks before accepting changes or shipping software.

Requirements, dependencies and conflicts

The retrieved Homebrew cask requires macOS12 or later and provides native Apple Silicon and Intel downloads. It declares no extra formula dependencies or explicit cask conflicts. Java, Node.js, Python, compilers, Git and other project tools are still required when your project or extensions depend on them; installing the editor does not supply every language toolchain. MCP servers and remote development connections can have their own requirements and credentials.

Cursor and other editors can coexist, but shell launchers, extensions, settings and workspace permissions are separate. The cask registers the cursor command, not the global code command. Homebrew's zap cleanup includes ~/.cursor and the Cursor Application Support directory, so preserve important user configuration and local agent data before using it. RAM and installed storage needs depend on repository size, extensions and agent activity; the cited downloads page does not specify a universal minimum.

Platform support

The official desktop downloads include macOS ARM64, x64 and Universal builds, Windows x64 and ARM64 installers, and Linux x64 and ARM64 packages. Select the correct CPU and package format. Linux AppImage availability does not prove compatibility with every distribution or installed library version; Windows and Linux minimum OS requirements were not established by the retrieved current downloads page. A native iOS companion and web/cloud interfaces are separate products and do not make this Mac cask installable on mobile. No equivalent Android desktop package was established from the cited download page.

Account, pricing, license and data

AI features require a Cursor account and access to online services. Hobby is a free plan with limited agent usage; Individual, Teams and Enterprise plans offer paid capabilities and usage allowances. On-demand model usage can add charges after an allowance is consumed. Check current prices, limits and taxes at the official pricing page rather than assume every feature is unlimited or included.

Cursor is proprietary software governed by Anysphere's Terms of Service; its use of open-source editor components does not license the whole product as MIT. Privacy Mode prevents code from being used for training by Cursor and model providers, but does not mean all AI processing occurs locally or that no code leaves your machine. Bring-your-own-key models follow the provider's data policy, and some retention-requiring models are exceptions to zero-retention arrangements. Separate products can have different data flows. Review organizational policies before granting agents or integrations access to repositories and credentials.
