OpenClaw

OpenClaw is an agent platform with a native Mac companion. The catalog package is the OpenClaw.app distribution, not merely the Node command-line package. The Mac app provides menu-bar status, a dashboard and chat interface, notifications, permission management and access to supported Mac-hosted capabilities. It can connect to a local or remote OpenClaw Gateway.

Gateway and model setup

Choose This Mac for an app-managed local Gateway or connect to an existing Gateway with its address and authentication. The publisher documents external CLI runtime setup for an app-managed local Gateway; connecting to an independently managed local or remote Gateway does not require the same local installation. A compatible configured model provider and credentials are needed for agent work. Installing the app does not include unlimited model inference or automatically authorize every connected service.

Agents can use enabled tools, plugins, messaging integrations and project information according to the configured access policy. Treat tool availability and execution permissions as separate settings. Review the target account, workspace and requested action before enabling powerful capabilities. Provider calls, browser tasks, connected channels and remote Gateways may send information beyond this Mac. Keep secrets in the supported credential configuration rather than ordinary shared notes.

Mac requirements

The publisher states that OpenClaw.app requires macOS 15.0 Sequoia or later. Voice Wake and push-to-talk require macOS 26 or later. These native-app requirements are distinct from the Node-based CLI and Gateway requirements; the 2026.9.3 release requires Node 24.16.0 or newer on 24.x, or Node 26.1.0 or newer, and recommends Node 26. A working CLI on an older Mac does not make the native app compatible with that operating system.

The exact current 2026.9.5 DMG is 375,775,184 bytes, matching the official release asset and production download. Read-only inspection confirms the main OpenClaw executable is universal, containing x86_64 for Intel and arm64 for Apple Silicon. Its Info.plist identifies version 2026.9.5 and minimum macOS 15.0. The app was not installed or executed during this check. Optional features and externally configured Gateway components retain their own requirements; universal main-app support does not imply every optional model or integration works on both CPU families. Additional storage, network access and service credentials depend on local Gateway setup and the selected tools. Grant macOS permissions only for capabilities you intend to use and review them in the app's This Mac settings.

Updates, sharing and cost

Recent releases harden staged updates, improve plugins and skills, and add supported conversation-sharing and meeting workflows. A shared conversation link can expose selected existing and future text; review its scope and revocation controls before publishing. The project is open source under its published MIT license, while model providers, cloud services and third-party integrations can carry separate costs and terms. Keep recoverable backups of workspaces and configuration before major upgrades, especially when runtime or plugin SDK compatibility changes.
