Bambu Studio

Bambu Studio is Bambu Lab's 3D-printing slicer and project manager, based on PrusaSlicer and Slic3r. It prepares supported models for compatible printers, previews generated toolpaths and can connect to supported Bambu Lab devices for sending jobs and monitoring. It suits hobbyists, designers and print-workflow operators; it is not a general CAD replacement or an entitlement to printer hardware, materials or cloud services.

Preparing and slicing projects

Import supported model formats, arrange and orient objects, manage multiple build plates and configure global, object and part settings. Support generation includes normal, tree and customized support workflows. Multi-material painting, filament management, assembly views, prime-tower settings and toolpath previews help prepare a job. Select the correct printer, nozzle, build plate and material profiles before slicing; estimates are not guarantees of print time or material performance.

Review previews and export a compatible sliced file for local media, or send it through an authorized printer connection. The project README states that slicing and printing via SD card are possible without the networking plug-in. A downloaded model may have its own reuse or commercial-print license; the slicer's license does not grant rights to every model.

Printer connections and safety

Network control requires a compatible printer and configuration. Cloud-connected devices and MakerWorld integrations use Bambu Lab accounts and online services; local slicing and removable-media export are separate workflows. LAN mode has its own printer settings, access authorization and plug-in requirements. Feature availability varies by printer firmware and device model; LAN mode should not be described as providing every cloud feature or as universally working on every network.

Sending a print or issuing a device command can operate real heaters, motors and fans. Confirm the target printer, clear the build area and use appropriate material, ventilation and manufacturer operating procedures. Firmware changes and calibration are distinct from merely opening a model. Do not send profiles or G-code intended for a different printer without verifying compatibility.

Mac installation and dependencies

Install the bambu-studio Homebrew Cask or use the official Mac release DMG and place the application in Applications. The recorded 02.08.02.61 build 20260820225108 DMG is 288,329,156 bytes by official HEAD. This is the application download size, not the disk space for projects, plug-ins, profiles or generated print data. Official prebuilt releases cover 64-bit macOS, Windows and Linux. The recorded Cask declares no extra runtime dependency, numeric macOS minimum or explicit conflict.

The exact-tag source build configuration defaults to a macOS 10.15 deployment target, which is not a guarantee that every bundled networking component or later OS is compatible. The release offers one Mac DMG rather than separate architecture-named images; its release page does not establish a per-CPU compatibility matrix. Choose current vendor guidance for your Intel or Apple Silicon Mac rather than assuming the filename proves native support for both. Source-compilation tools are not blanket packaged-app prerequisites.

Network discovery and printer communication can need macOS Local Network authorization and appropriate firewall access. File permissions depend on the model and export folders selected. A general requirement for Screen Recording, Accessibility or kernel extensions is not established by the official package information. The 02.08.02.60 release specifically warns that its macOS 27 Beta networking plug-in supports cloud connections but can fail to connect over LAN because of a permission issue; that beta warning is not a statement about all macOS versions.

Cost, licensing and privacy

Bambu Studio is free to download. Its source is licensed under AGPL version 3, while the optional Bambu networking plug-in is based on non-free libraries and is not covered by a claim that every distributed component is open source. The project explicitly separates that plug-in from offline slicing. Bambu Lab describes its plug-in as an independent closed-source component; users should review its own terms before enabling network functions.

Local slicing and SD-card export do not require purchase of a slicer subscription. Printer hardware, filament, online models and any separately offered services have their own costs and terms. Cloud use and sharing can send project or device data to online services; review account and privacy settings for the chosen connection. LAN-only printer operation does not mean every optional feature of the desktop application is offline.
