LibreOffice
The Document Foundation · Free, open-source office suite for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings, databases and formulas.
About
LibreOffice is a free, open-source office suite developed by a community coordinated by The Document Foundation. It suits individuals, schools and organizations that work with documents locally.
Features
- Writer creates documents, Calc handles spreadsheets and data, and Impress builds presentations.
- Draw edits graphics, Base manages databases, and Math creates formulas.
- ODF is the native format; DOCX, XLSX and PPTX can be read and written, and documents exported to PDF. Test complex formatting, macros and external data connections with your actual files.
Installation and conflicts On Mac, run brew install --cask libreoffice, then open LibreOffice.app. This Cask conflicts with libreoffice-still; do not install both. Ordinary document editing does not require Java; some features, including Base, need Java, with a JDK on macOS.
Requirements and platforms Official Mac requirements: macOS 11 or newer, Intel or Apple Silicon, 512 MB RAM, up to about 800 MB free disk space and a 1280×800 display. Download size differs from installed size. This store provides the Mac Cask; Windows and Linux editions are available through their own channels.
Cost and license Direct official downloads are free, without a subscription or account requirement; the source uses MPL 2.0. Ordinary editing works offline. Updates, online help and external services require a connection. Ecosystem partners offer professional enterprise support separately.
