Uninstall Lazarus and optional data cleanup

Uninstall command
brew uninstall --cask lazarus

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

Uninstalling also removes

Files and folders
/Applications/Lazarus.app

Deep clean (optional)

Uninstall command
brew uninstall --zap --cask lazarus

--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left. Back up any data you need first. To keep settings and caches, leave out --zap.

Questions about Lazarus

Is Lazarus safe?

Homebrew has disabled Lazarus (it no longer meets Homebrew’s criteria), so it can no longer be installed with Homebrew. It was disabled on Jan 27.

How do I completely uninstall Lazarus on a Mac?

Run brew uninstall --cask lazarus. It forgets 2 installer receipts. To delete its settings and caches as well, run brew uninstall --zap --cask lazarus. --zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left. Back up any data you need first. To keep settings and caches, leave out --zap. That also deletes ~/.lazarus.

Does Lazarus run on Apple silicon (M1 and later) Macs?

It installs, but on Apple silicon Macs it runs through Rosetta 2.

Where does Lazarus store its settings and data?

Its data is in ~/.lazarus. These locations come from Homebrew’s clean-up list.

What is the latest version of Lazarus?

The latest version is 3.6, added to Homebrew on Sep 30, 2024. Run brew upgrade --cask lazarus to update it.

What else does installing Lazarus add?

It installs through a .pkg installer, which asks for an administrator password.
