Google Japanese Input
Google · Google’s desktop Japanese input method with phrase completion, learned suggestions, an updated vocabulary dictionary and incognito learning mode.
About
Google Japanese Input is Google's desktop Japanese input method for people who write Japanese on Windows or macOS. It converts typed phonetic input into Japanese text and offers completion based on phrases you use and a dictionary drawn from language used on the web.
Input features
Frequently used phrases can be learned for automatic completion after typing their first characters. Incognito mode disables learning when you do not want a typing session to affect suggestions. Google's product page describes a broad dictionary covering names, places, specialist vocabulary and contemporary expressions, with periodic automatic dictionary updates. Android and iOS users are directed to Gboard; Linux users are directed to the separate open-source Mozc project. Those are not the same desktop installer as this package.
Installation and compatibility
Download the official GoogleJapaneseInput.dmg, open the installer and follow its input-method setup, or use brew install --cask google-japanese-ime. The current cask requires macOS 12 or later. Choose and enable the installed Japanese input source in macOS keyboard settings. The cask installs a package rather than just copying an ordinary app, so the system may request administrator authorization. Exact processor coverage and a fixed RAM requirement were not established by the checked sources. The current official DMG is 104,421,336 bytes, verified by its download server.
Accounts, network and fees
Google states that desktop Japanese Input is available free of charge for Windows and macOS. The inspected product instructions do not require a Google account for ordinary desktop input. Downloading the installer and receiving software/dictionary updates require connectivity; do not assume all update functions work offline. Google product terms govern the proprietary desktop distribution. Mozc's open-source license should not be substituted for the license of Google's desktop installer.
Privacy, permissions and cautions
The official product FAQ says words and sentences typed through Google Japanese Input are not sent to Google, and links to its help material for details. That specific statement should not be expanded into a claim that downloads, updates or every optional reporting mechanism generate no network traffic. Review privacy and reporting preferences in the installed application. An input method participates in text-entry workflows; install only the official package and avoid granting unrelated broad permissions. The inspected sources do not establish a blanket Accessibility, Full Disk Access or Screen Recording requirement. Incognito mode disables learning; it is not a general network-anonymity feature. Keep copies of custom dictionaries before replacing or uninstalling the input method.
The official page publishes feature descriptions but the checked sources do not supply exact change lists for catalog versions 3.33.6130, 3.33.6088 and 2.32.5990. Those version changes are not attributed to guessed dictionary, security or compatibility fixes. The screenshot is Google's official completion example, not a capture of one of those exact releases. Google's official product icon is supplied as SVG, which the catalog's PNG/JPEG/WebP upload endpoint rejected; an unrelated Google or Mozc icon is not substituted.
