LXGW WenKai is an open-source Chinese typeface derived from Fontworks’ Klee One. This Homebrew cask installs six TTF files: Light, Medium, and Regular weights in both proportional and monospaced styles. It is a font package, not an application.

  • The family has a literary, textbook-inspired style described as combining features of Fangsong and Kai. The project notes that it may be better suited to medium-length text, such as poetry, or annotations than to long body text.
  • The project describes support for simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, and documents Unicode Variation Sequences for choosing punctuation width and position.
  • The full font includes CJK Unified Ideographs in the Basic and Extension A blocks; some additional characters are included. The project also notes that some glyph outlines may be rough or imperfect.
  • This cask installs the six listed files only; it does not install the separate Lite, GB, TC, Screen, or KR variants.

How to install LXGW WenKai on Mac

  1. In Terminal, run: brew install --cask font-lxgw-wenkai
  2. Homebrew installs the font in ~/Library/Fonts, where Font Book can use it.

Adjusts existing Chinese glyphs and adds characters and variation sequences introduced in Unicode 18.0. Adds dice and mahjong symbols, additional Latin combinations, and the fwid feature for selected full-width characters. Repositions and resizes the LXGW logo glyph. The exact glyph lists and variant-specific changes are documented in this font's official 1.530 release.
