About

Firge is a programming font that combines Fira Mono with Gen Shin Gothic. The installed files cover Firge and Firge35 families, each with standard and Console variants in regular and bold styles.

  • Firge uses a half-width-to-full-width ratio of 1:2. Fira Mono forms are used mainly for ASCII letters, numbers, and symbols; other symbols, kana, and kanji use Gen Shin Gothic.
  • Firge Console gives Fira Mono priority for glyphs shared by the two source fonts, so many symbols, including arrows, appear half-width.
  • Firge35 uses a 3:5 half-width-to-full-width ratio, making its Latin characters larger relative to full-width characters than in standard Firge.
  • Firge35 Console applies the Firge Console approach with the 3:5 ratio.

To install, run brew install --cask font-firge. Then select the installed Firge font you want in a compatible application’s font settings; this installs fonts, not an application. The available files are Firge-Regular.ttf, Firge-Bold.ttf, FirgeConsole-Regular.ttf, FirgeConsole-Bold.ttf, Firge35-Regular.ttf, Firge35-Bold.ttf, Firge35Console-Regular.ttf, and Firge35Console-Bold.ttf. The project describes Firge as a programming font, but the listed files do not include the Nerd Console families described separately by the project.
