File Juicer
A macOS app that searches files for embedded images, text, media, and other extractable content.
About
File Juicer is a macOS application for finding and extracting content embedded in files. It searches through a dropped file byte by byte, so the input does not have to be a particular file type. Results it can save include images, text, PDFs, web content, audio, video, and archives.
Examples of its uses include extracting images and text from PDFs; recovering images or video from flash-card images visible in Finder; retrieving email attachments and album artwork; and extracting JPEG images from Canon and Nikon RAW files. It can also search Safari caches, recover text from damaged files, and rebuild simple PDFs as Word documents. What can be recovered depends on how the source file stores its content.
To get started, install with brew install --cask file-juicer, then drop files or folders onto File Juicer. You can choose the desktop or another folder as the destination for extracted items. Flash-card image recovery requires the card to be visible in Finder.
The app requires macOS 10.15.7 or newer. The cask installs the File Juicer application.
