Cyd is a Security & Privacy app for Mac. It is free to download and offers in-app purchases. It needs macOS 13 or later.

About

Cyd is an open-source desktop application from Lockdown Systems Collective for keeping local copies of social-platform data and removing online content you no longer want. It suits people reducing their digital footprint, retaining private backups, or moving away from X.

Features and scope

  • Back up X posts, likes and bookmarks locally, and remove posts, reposts, likes and bookmarks.
  • Keep selected content, migrate X posts to Bluesky, or update your X profile to announce the move.
  • The official 1.2.4 notes activate Bluesky as a desktop platform with a dashboard and OAuth foundations. Facebook remains feature-flagged, not unconditionally available.
  • Account data is handled on your device. Version 1.2.4 withdraws X direct-message support; older documentation is not a promise of DM backup or deletion.

Installation and requirements

The current Homebrew version is 1.2.4. It requires macOS 13 or later and provides a universal Apple Silicon/Intel installer. Run in Terminal:

brew install --cask cyd

Alternatively, download the Mac installer from the official site, install Cyd.app in Applications, open it and follow the account setup. Back up first and check what will be kept before deleting. Automated X activity can lead to account suspension.

Pricing and limitations

Free features are available alongside a paid Premium subscription; some selective-deletion and migration features require payment. Consult the official pricing page for plan details. Older desktop documentation trails the 1.2.4 release notes, so mobile features are not automatically desktop features. Removing online data does not guarantee removal of third-party copies or platform backups.

The Bluesky desktop dashboard in this version is a UI shell only: identity connection, saving and browsing entry points are unavailable. It is not complete desktop backup or deletion support.

Install and uninstall

Homebrew installs the app in your Applications folder.

Install without Homebrew

Download the same file Homebrew uses: releases.lockdown.systems/cyd/prod/macos/universal/Cyd%201.2.4.dmg

SHA-256 only checks that the download is complete; it is not a security certification. See the SHA-256 and download address

Uninstall command
$ brew uninstall --cask cyd

A regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.

Deep clean (optional)
$ brew uninstall --zap --cask \cyd

--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left.See which files are removed
