About

Cyberduck is a desktop browser for remote servers and cloud storage on macOS and Windows. It suits people who upload websites, move files between a computer and a server, or manage object-storage buckets through a graphical interface.

Main features

  • Connect using FTP, FTP over TLS, SFTP, WebDAV and SMB.
  • Browse services including Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure, Backblaze B2 and OpenStack Swift.
  • Access supported Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and other providers through connection profiles.
  • Organize bookmarks, browse remote folders and upload or download files and directories.
  • Queue transfers, limit concurrency and resume supported interrupted transfers.
  • Preview local/remote synchronization changes before applying them.
  • Open remote files in an external editor and upload edits.
  • Use compatible Cryptomator vaults for client-side file and filename encryption.

Install and connect

Install this Mac cask with brew install --cask cyberduck, or download the official Mac ZIP, extract it and place Cyberduck in Applications. Launch it, choose Open Connection, select the correct protocol or provider, and enter the server address and authentication details. Save a bookmark if you will return to that connection. Test with a small file before transferring a large directory.

For SFTP, use the server's SSH credentials or an appropriate private key; it is distinct from FTP over TLS. For cloud storage, follow the provider's profile and authentication workflow, which can involve an account, access keys or browser-based OAuth authorization. Credentials must have permission for the intended folders, buckets and operations. Check server host keys and certificate prompts before accepting a connection. Cyberduck integrates with macOS Keychain for stored passwords and certificate trust; ordinary file transfers do not establish a general requirement for Accessibility, microphone or screen-recording permission.

Dragging files uploads or downloads them according to the source and destination. Before synchronizing, inspect the preview, direction and overwrite/delete implications. Opening a remote file in an external editor involves a local copy and uploading the edited result; coordinate concurrent edits and retain backups for important content.

Storage, security and limitations

Cyberduck is a client: it does not include a server or a cloud-storage subscription. Provider accounts, hosting, storage capacity, requests and data-transfer charges remain separate. Anonymous access is possible only when the selected server or storage endpoint permits it. Connections and transfers need network access; locally downloaded files remain usable offline.

Supported features vary by protocol and provider. Cryptomator vault support encrypts file contents and names on the client, but requires appropriate vault credentials and does not replace transport authentication or account permissions. FTP without TLS does not provide the same transport protection as SFTP or secured FTP. This desktop browser does not promise to mount every remote connection as a Finder disk: upstream offers the separate Mountain Duck product for mounting remote storage. The duck command-line tool is also a separate distribution.

Requirements and platforms

The current official 9.5.4 download page states macOS 10.13 or later on 64-bit Intel or Apple M1, and Windows 10 64-bit or later. Apple Silicon support does not imply that an Apple Silicon Mac can run older Intel-only macOS releases. This catalog is the Mac desktop cask; the current snapshot declares no additional formula dependency or cask conflict. No supported Linux desktop, iOS or Android app is established here.

The official 9.5.4 build 45528 Mac ZIP is 179,988,102 bytes, confirmed by the download server and matching the production record. This is archive download size, not installed space. No specific universal RAM or disk minimum was confirmed; transfers, local edited copies and downloaded files require space appropriate to the work.

Price and license

Cyberduck's direct download is free software supported by voluntary contributions. A contributor registration key disables the donation prompt; it is not a cloud-storage plan. Paid Mac App Store and Windows Store distributions are alternative ways to support development, with store-specific price and terms. No fixed regional store price is asserted here. Donation and store purchases do not cover third-party storage or bandwidth charges.

The official copyright notice licenses the program under GNU GPL version 2 or, at your option, any later version. The same license page also reproduces GPL version 3 text; consult the notices in the distribution for redistribution obligations. Cyberduck is maintained by iterate GmbH and contributors.
