GitHub Copilot CLI
GitHub · Use GitHub Copilot from a terminal to ask questions, work on code, and interact with GitHub.
About
GitHub Copilot CLI is a command-line interface for using Copilot from a terminal. It offers interactive sessions for iterative work as well as a programmatic mode that accepts a prompt and exits after completing the task.
- Ask questions, write or debug code, and request changes to a project.
- Choose between ask/execute and plan modes in interactive sessions; plan mode creates a structured plan before code is written.
- Work with GitHub tasks such as reviewing pull requests, handling issues, and creating pull requests.
- The CLI can use tools to modify or execute files and run shell commands; review permission requests and proposed actions carefully.
Install this prerelease variant with brew install --cask copilot-cli@prerelease, then run copilot to begin an interactive session. On macOS, the supplied cask requires macOS 13 or later; the cask also provides Linux artifacts, and GitHub lists Linux as a supported operating system. GitHub Copilot access is required; organization-provided access may depend on the CLI policy being enabled by the organization. This cask conflicts with copilot-cli.
