BBEdit
Bare Bones Software · A macOS editor for text, code, and markup, with search tools and command-line utilities.
About
BBEdit is a text, code, and markup editor for macOS. The bbedit@14 Homebrew cask installs the versioned BBEdit 14 app, along with command-line utilities and their man pages.
The product’s documented capabilities include:
- Editing and manipulating prose, source code, and textual data.
- Searching and replacing across multiple files, including with grep pattern matching.
- Syntax coloring, function navigation, and code folding for source code.
- HTML markup tools, plus opening and saving over FTP and SFTP.
- Workflow options including Git and Subversion integration, AppleScript, and macOS Unix scripting support.
Install with brew install --cask bbedit@14. The cask places BBEdit.app in /Applications and provides the bbedit, bbdiff, bbfind, and bbresults command-line tools. The cask requires macOS and conflicts with the unversioned bbedit cask, so those two casks cannot be installed together. The product website describes a free mode after a 30-day evaluation; access to exclusive features afterward requires a license or Mac App Store subscription.
