介绍
Snapzy is a native macOS menu-bar tool for screenshots, screen recordings, annotation and lightweight video editing. It is useful for explaining a workflow, reporting a bug or preparing a clear visual reference without switching between several capture tools.
Capture and editing
Capture a screen, area or window; use delayed and scrolling capture, annotate with arrows/text/shapes, and retrieve recent captures from history. The editor supports blur/pixelation and sensitive-data redaction, but you must inspect the resulting image yourself. Recording tools include video/GIF output, system audio and optional microphone/camera input. The video editor can trim, crop, change speed and add backgrounds. OCR uses Apple Vision or an optional custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint; the latter can send selected material to that configured service.
Install and requirements
Mount the official 2.0.0 DMG and move Snapzy into Applications, or use brew install --cask snapzy. The exact release DMG is 49,683,313 bytes. Snapzy requires macOS 13 or later; some features, such as window-shadow capture, have newer OS requirements. The inspected release/README does not state a precise RAM minimum or exact architecture coverage for the DMG. Large recordings require extra disk space, and export time depends on resolution and hardware. Official releases are Developer ID signed and notarized; use the official distribution rather than disabling security checks for an unknown copy.
Permissions and privacy
Screen capture needs the appropriate macOS Screen Recording permission. The README also documents Accessibility permission for relevant interaction features and Microphone permission for microphone recording; camera overlays require camera access. Grant permissions for the features you use and review them in System Settings if capture stops after an update. Captures and local history can contain private conversations, credentials or personal information: inspect the whole frame before copying or uploading it. Blur and automatic redaction are aids, not guarantees that every secret is hidden.
License, accounts and network
Snapzy is free and open-source under the BSD3-Clause license; keep the required notices if redistributing it. Ordinary local capture and editing do not require a cloud account. Optional S3/Cloudflare R2 uploads use your own storage account and credentials, with separate provider charges and access policies. Downloads, Sparkle updates, custom OCR endpoints and cloud uploads require network access. Check remote destination and expiration settings before sharing a capture. Diagnostic log bundles can contain workflow information, so review them before submission.
