Roblox Studio
Roblox Corporation · Build, script, test and publish Roblox experiences with 3D editing, Luau, asset tools and collaboration.
介绍
Roblox Studio is the free Windows and Mac development application for building and publishing Roblox experiences. It is aimed at creators designing 3D worlds, scripting gameplay in Luau, building interfaces and testing behavior on the Roblox platform. It is an authoring tool, distinct from the Roblox player used to join experiences.
Creation and testing
Edit parts, terrain, models, lighting and interfaces, organize objects in the Explorer and inspect properties. Write Luau scripts and test experiences before publishing. Studio supports collaboration, asset management and plugins; availability and permissions depend on the account, project and feature. Roblox's hosted platform supplies runtime and distribution services, so publishing is subject to platform policies rather than being an unrestricted standalone game export workflow.
Installation and requirements
Use the official Studio download and installation prompts, then sign in with a Roblox account. brew install --cask robloxstudio is another installation option. This catalog points to an Apple Silicon ARM64 application ZIP, exactly 574,318,868 bytes, rather than the small setup DMG described in the general installation guide. Choose an installer appropriate to your Mac; do not use this ARM64 artifact on an Intel machine. The general Studio documentation lists macOS 10.14 or Windows 10 as minimum OS versions and 3 GB RAM, with macOS 14+/Windows 11, 8 GB RAM and 1600×900 or higher recommended. That general old-macOS statement does not establish compatibility of the specific ARM64 build with old Intel Macs. The exact build's additional binary minimum OS was not established in the checked sources. Complex scenes and testing can need substantially more CPU, GPU, memory and disk space.
Accounts, network and cost
Studio is free proprietary software under Roblox's terms, not an open-source engine license. A Roblox account is required to sign in, and network access is needed for installation, updates, cloud assets, collaboration and publishing. Creator Store assets, platform purchases, monetization and Robux transactions have separate terms and possible costs; free Studio installation does not make every asset free or guarantee earnings. Keep account security and project permissions up to date, particularly on shared machines or team-owned experiences.
Permissions and project safety
Studio reads and writes project and import/export files and can execute scripts or plugins during development and testing. Inspect community models and plugins before enabling them, because unwanted scripts can be embedded in imported content. Grant file, camera or microphone access only when the actual workflow or experience feature needs it; ordinary editing is not a blanket reason for every macOS permission. Check asset rights, moderation rules and publishing settings before sharing an experience. Keep local backups or versioned copies of important places, and avoid relying on an autosave as your only recovery path.
Updates and release scope
The official setup guide explains that Roblox experiences use the latest engine, and Studio's Update button saves/closes the open place before updating and restarting. Beta features can need a restart and may change. The official screenshot is a cropped toolbar example highlighting this Update button. Notes below correspond to the official 742/741/740 release families associated with the catalog versions; Roblox's pages do not establish patch-specific changes for every full build suffix. Pending changes and feature-flag restrictions remain explicitly labeled, and should not be treated as already available in every live experience.
