介绍

Devin CLI is Cognition's command-line coding agent with Devin Cloud integration. It works in a terminal with local files and the development environment, helping developers explore code, implement changes, investigate bugs, review work and run project commands.

Local coding and cloud sessions

Start in the intended project directory, describe a task and review the agent's proposed work. Skills, rules, hooks, plugins and MCP connections can extend its behavior. Project compilers, dependencies and test tools remain your development environment's responsibility.

Devin CLI and Devin Cloud are different workflows. The CLI performs interactive work locally; Devin Cloud runs an AI software engineer in a virtual machine. Cloud commands can create or resume sessions, connect to their VMs through SSH, or bring a cloud pull-request branch into a local session. The official quickstart says Devin account Knowledge, Playbooks and Secrets are not currently supported directly in the local CLI. Do not assume every cloud-product capability is installed with this binary.

Mac installation and platform support

The current 3000.11.3 Apple Silicon archive is 57,383,263 bytes before extraction and installed storage. Separate ARM64 and x86-64 Mac archives are published. The cask installs the bin/devin executable into the Homebrew executable path, rather than a standalone Mac application bundle. Restart the terminal if necessary so that its executable path is available.

The catalog declares no additional package dependency, conflict or explicit minimum macOS version. This is not a promise of compatibility with every Mac system. Official installation documentation also covers Linux, WSL and Windows, with separate packages and installation methods. The distributed CLI binary does not require installing a separate Python or Node runtime through this cask; project tools, MCP servers and plugins may have their own runtime requirements.

Permissions and sandboxing

The agent can read and change files and run shell commands using the local user's environment. Select an appropriate permission mode and inspect proposed commands, diffs and tests. Bypass Permissions mode removes ordinary approvals and, in 3000.11.1, no longer opens editor review for file edits. Use it only when its implications are appropriate for the task and repository.

Optional OS-level sandboxing is a distinct control that restricts writable paths and denied reads and can filter network destinations. Organization policy can require it. The documentation describes fail-closed behavior when the sandbox cannot be established; Windows OS-level sandboxing is not currently supported, while Linux requires additional sandbox tools. Permission prompts alone should not be treated as complete isolation of every child process.

Plugins, hooks and MCP servers can execute code or access services. Give them only the access needed, use trusted configuration, and protect credentials. Maintain independent backups or version control for files that the agent can modify. Connecting to a cloud session requires valid access to that session and network connectivity; it does not grant unrestricted access to other accounts.

Accounts, data and cost

Devin CLI uses authenticated service access. Local command execution does not mean that model reasoning is entirely offline: prompts, repository context and tool results may be processed by the configured service. Review the applicable privacy and organizational data policies before using confidential projects.

The current public Devin pricing page lists a Free plan with a light agent quota and limited models, Pro at US$20 per month, and Max at US$200 per month. Paid plans have daily and weekly usage allowances; extra usage can be purchased at API pricing. These are plan-dependent allowances, not unlimited access granted by installing the CLI. Prices and availability vary and can change.

Devin enterprise authentication requires an enterprise account and a role with Use Devin CLI permission. Its documented billing uses ACUs and counts toward the organization's existing enterprise allocation; enterprise agreements and legacy Windsurf arrangements should not be replaced with the individual public-plan prices. Credentials stored by the CLI must be kept private and out of source control.

Devin CLI is a proprietary Cognition product governed by the applicable service agreement. Its installer and product name do not grant an open-source license or a free Devin Cloud entitlement.
