Script Debugger is an integrated development environment focused on AppleScript. It brings script editing, application inspection, debugging, and deployment tools together for people building Mac automations.

  • Explore applications: The Dictionary Explorer displays scripting interfaces and live application data, and lets you experiment with an application’s objects and commands.
  • Edit scripts: Code completion covers AppleScript, scripting additions, application commands, variables, and AppleScriptObjC handlers. Split-pane editing, code folding, and configurable themes support work with longer scripts.
  • Debug interactively: Run scripts line by line, set breakpoints, and inspect variable values as execution proceeds.
  • Prepare scripts to share: The app can check for common packaging issues and export scripts in run-only form. It also supports creating standalone applets and code-signing and notarizing script applications through the separate SD Notary application.

Install with brew install --cask script-debugger, then open Script Debugger from your Applications folder to start working with AppleScript. The Homebrew package installs the Script Debugger application.
