介紹

QuickLook Video extends macOS support for audio and video formats that Finder, Quick Look and AVFoundation do not handle natively. It adds thumbnails, file metadata and supported previews for formats such as Matroska, WebM, AVI and Windows Media.

View a contact sheet from Finder's Services menu.
Add or replace supported video cover art and refresh thumbnail caches.

Compatibility and setup

Version 3.12 requires macOS 26 Tahoe or later according to its official release notes. The publisher offers separate older releases for earlier macOS versions; do not rely on the catalog's generic older minimum for this current build. Copy the app into Applications and run it there to initialize its extensions. Spotlight may briefly use extra CPU and disk resources while indexing media metadata.

Press Refresh to clear thumbnail caches and refresh Finder if old thumbnails remain. Select a file and press Space to preview it. Quick Look is not a full media-player replacement: the official guide notes that subtitle selection, chapter markers and audio-track switching are not supported. Use a dedicated player for those controls.

The project is licensed under GPL version 2 or later. Grant access to the media files you intend to inspect. Cover-art edits can create or alter media files; verify that the resulting file plays correctly before deleting its original. This is a local media-extension workflow, not a cloud backup or transcoding service.
