介紹

Motrix is an open-source desktop download manager built around aria 2. It provides a task-oriented interface for HTTP/FTP transfers, BitTorrent and magnet links, selective torrent downloads, speed limits and concurrent connections. It suits people managing several downloads who prefer a visual queue and progress display over a command-line client.

Installation and architecture

Mount the official Mac DMG and install Motrix, or use brew install --cask motrix. This exact 1.8.19 artifact is the ARM64 DMG for Apple Silicon, 91,902,628 bytes. Intel and universal builds are separately published; Windows and Linux distributions also exist. The checked publisher material did not specify a precise minimum macOS version or fixed RAM requirement for this DMG. Keep enough disk space for completed and partial downloads. aria 2 is bundled; Node/Yarn instructions in the repository are for development, not a prerequisite to use the packaged app.

Transfer controls and networking

Configure the destination, speed limits and number of tasks before starting a large transfer. The release provides Cookie/Referer and HTTP authorization-header support for authenticated downloads, but access still depends on the server and valid credentials. Ordinary local use does not require a Motrix cloud account. Transfers contact their sources; tracker-list updates, torrent peers and optional UPnP/NAT-PMP port mapping can also use network connections. A local RPC listening-port setting is available; avoid exposing an unauthenticated download-control endpoint to other machines.

License and privacy

Motrix uses the MIT license, with third-party component licenses applying to bundled dependencies. It does not provide paid content rights or bypass a site's access restrictions. BitTorrent can upload data and expose your IP address to peers, so check bandwidth limits and use only authorized sources. Cookies, private URLs and authorization headers are sensitive: avoid sharing task logs or copied commands containing them.

Practical risks and release evidence

Verify important downloads against publisher checksums or signatures before opening them. Deleting a task can optionally remove its associated files; confirm the option before clearing the queue. Multiple connections do not guarantee faster downloads and may trigger server limits. The fixed catalog currently contains only 1.8.19, so one exact release note is written rather than inventing two older entries. The official README's older Mac task-view screenshot illustrates the interface, not the exact 1.8.19 build.
