介紹

Anaconda Distribution provides Python, conda and a curated collection of scientific and data-analysis packages. It is useful for learning Python, running notebooks and maintaining separate environments for projects with different dependencies. Anaconda Navigator offers a graphical route to applications and environment management; conda also works from the terminal.

Environments and tools

Create an environment for each project, choose its Python version and install the packages needed for that workload. Launch installed notebook or development tools through Navigator, or activate the environment from your shell. Environment separation helps avoid incompatible dependencies, but a large distribution requires substantial disk space and is not the same as the smaller Miniconda installer.

Installation and Mac compatibility

The current 2026.07-1 Mac installer targets Apple Silicon. The official release notes state that 2025.06 was the last series supporting Intel Macs; current Mac installers check the architecture and refuse installation on Intel hardware. Select an appropriate older supported installer if you need Intel compatibility rather than assuming the current cask is universal. Separate Windows and Linux installers are available. Follow the publisher's installer and shell-initialization steps, open a new terminal and verify the intended conda environment before starting work. Avoid confusing this Python installation with system Python or another package manager's environments.

Terms, accounts and network use

Anaconda Distribution combines open-source components with installer and repository terms; do not describe the whole distribution and all Anaconda services as an unrestricted MIT product. Package access can require accepting Anaconda's Terms of Service, and organizational use can require a commercial agreement. Review the current terms for your organization and chosen package channels. Authentication is needed for services that require an Anaconda account, including some business repository access.

Package installation and searches contact configured repositories. The 2025.06 release introduced anonymous telemetry for specified conda commands, so this distribution should not be presented as telemetry-free. Keep credentials out of shared environment files and review unfamiliar channels and packages before adding them. Local notebooks and scripts operate on the files you choose; synchronize or upload them only when intended. Export environment specifications for reproducibility and maintain independent backups of important data.
