OpenDisk

OpenDisk scans a Mac drive and visualizes where storage is being used. The official project is maintained under the 137137137 GitHub account and licensed under MIT.

Finding large files

Results appear while a scan is running. You can enter folders, inspect exact sizes, search filenames across the drive and rescan using saved scans and filesystem events. The app recognizes external drives and reports caches and purgeable space. The developer publishes performance measurements, but those are not guarantees for every drive or Mac.

Collecting and deleting

Drag unwanted items into the Collector to review the space they occupy and delete them together. Deletion is permanent and bypasses the Trash: review the selection before confirming. The project states that system folders, your home folder and your Library are protected from deletion.

Installation and privacy

Requires macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon or Intel. The downloaded build is universal, offers to move itself into Applications and uses Sparkle updates. Full Disk Access is needed for complete drive totals and can be granted in System Settings > Privacy & Security. The separately distributed Mac App Store build is sandboxed and scans only locations you select. The README states that the downloaded app has no analytics or accounts and contacts opendisk.app to check for updates.
