Google Chrome

Google Chrome is Google's web browser for everyday browsing, web applications and development. It combines Chromium's web engine with Google services, automatic updates and optional account-based features.

Features • Organize browsing with tabs, tab groups, bookmarks and separate profiles. • Use Google Password Manager for saved credentials and supported passkey workflows, and sign in when you want account-based synchronization across devices. • Browse with Safe Browsing protections, security updates and privacy controls; Incognito limits locally saved session data but does not make you anonymous to websites or network operators. • Reduce resource use with Memory Saver and Energy Saver, where supported. • Add extensions from the Chrome Web Store and inspect pages using developer tools. • Use optional Google Search and Gemini features where your account, region, language, device and plan are eligible; these are not guaranteed for every installation.

Install and update on Mac Install with brew install --cask google-chrome, or download googlechrome.dmg from Google, open it and drag Google Chrome into Applications. Open Chrome and choose whether to make it your default browser or sign in. Chrome supports automatic updates; use Help → About Google Chrome to check the installed version and relaunch when an update is ready. The official stable DMG URL is rolling rather than pinned to a permanent version. The displayed download size is a measurement of that URL at the time of verification, not installed disk space.

Requirements and dependencies The official Mac requirement and current Homebrew cask minimum are macOS 13 Ventura or later; the universal Mac package supports Intel and Apple Silicon. The cask lists no extra Homebrew package dependencies or cask conflicts. This does not guarantee compatibility with every extension, website or managed configuration. The cited installation page does not specify fixed Mac RAM or free-disk minimums. Web access and updates require an internet connection, while downloaded content or some web applications can work offline.

Other platforms Chrome also has Windows, Linux, Android and iPhone/iPad editions, each with its own package and requirements. Google's desktop installation page requires Windows 10+ with an SSE3-capable Intel Pentium 4 or later for the Intel edition, or Windows 11+ for ARM. Linux supports 64-bit Ubuntu 18.04+, Debian 10+, openSUSE 15.5+ and Fedora 39+, with an SSE3-capable x86-64 CPU or a 64-bit ARM CPU. Mobile requirements are determined by the current store listing. This Homebrew cask installs only the Mac edition.

Accounts, cost and license Downloading and browsing with Chrome are free, and ordinary browsing does not require a Google Account. Sign-in is needed for account-based features; managed organizations may enforce their own policies. Websites, paid extensions, enterprise services and optional AI subscriptions can have separate charges. For example, Google's product page restricts Gemini auto browse to eligible Google AI Pro/Ultra subscribers in the U.S. Chrome is governed by Google Terms of Service and Chrome's additional terms. Its open-source components have their own licenses listed at chrome://credits; the Chromium source repository is the upstream project, not a claim that the complete branded Chrome distribution is solely open source.
