CameraController
Itay Bre and CameraController contributors · A Mac utility for changing settings exposed by UVC cameras without relying on a camera vendor’s configuration app.
Описание
CameraController exposes camera settings supported through USB Video Class (UVC). It suits people using compatible external webcams who want to adjust their image without the vendor's utility. Basic/advanced panels present supported controls; the available options depend on the camera firmware and UVC descriptors, so the app cannot add exposure, focus or vendor-specific functions a device does not expose.
Hardware and compatibility
The official tagged README requires macOS Catalina 10.15 or newer and a UVC-controllable camera. Read-only inspection of the exact CameraController.zip confirms app 1.4.0, LSMinimumSystemVersion 10.15 and both x86_64/arm64 executables. The ZIP is 1,594,581 bytes by official release metadata and actual download. Intel and Apple Silicon binary support does not mean every built-in camera is controllable.
The README explicitly warns that newer built-in FaceTime cameras on T1/T2 Macs require a special entitlement available only to Apple; some older built-in cameras can work. Test the actual external camera and controls before relying on the app. The checked README/release does not publish a numeric minimum RAM requirement. USB connection, firmware and any required device driver must work first; a virtual/software camera or proprietary control path may not behave like a standard UVC device.
Installation and use
Download the publisher ZIP, extract CameraController and move it to Applications. Open the app, choose the intended camera and adjust only supported settings. The old README mentions a retired Homebrew driver tap; use the current official cask or direct release rather than assuming that historical tap is still necessary. Xcode/SwiftLint are source-build tools, not ordinary runtime dependencies. Grant expected macOS camera/device authorization when prompted, and use ordinary user privileges where possible.
The app changes camera configuration; it is not a meeting client or recording application. Changes can affect the image seen by other apps using that device and may conflict with automatic camera controls or vendor utilities. Avoid assuming changes persist across disconnect/reboot unless you have tested them; the tagged README lists applying settings on startup as a future task. Keep a record of defaults to recover from unsuitable exposure/focus changes.
License, accounts and privacy
CameraController is GPLv3-licensed by its contributors and free to use without a publisher account. Ordinary UVC control does not require a cloud service or model subscription. The checked project documentation does not publish a complete privacy/telemetry policy, so this listing makes no blanket no-telemetry guarantee. Device access is sensitive: camera previews and connected meeting/recording apps can expose images independently of the control utility.
Download only trusted builds, review permissions and ensure the intended camera is selected before changing settings. Do not confuse adjusting a webcam with securing video meetings or disabling camera access for other apps. Inspect support logs/device identifiers before sharing them. Only 1.4.0 is present as a distinct version in this fixed catalog; older releases are not invented as catalog records.
