Setup and compatibility

Install the official Mac distribution and follow Telegram's account sign-in flow. You need a Telegram account and access to its sign-in verification method. Confirm the current download's Mac requirements before using an older system; this is Telegram Desktop, distinct from the separate native Telegram for macOS client. Audio and video functions can request relevant microphone or camera permissions.

Telegram Desktop is distributed under GPLv3. Telegram's messaging service has separate account, privacy and platform rules. Review linked devices, notification previews and sharing destinations before handling confidential information. Cloud synchronization means account content can be available on other authorized devices; do not assume that every chat mode has the same security or retention properties. Never give verification codes to other people.
