Descripción

Snipaste captures screen regions and pins images as floating, topmost reference windows. It is useful for designers comparing layouts, developers following visual references and anyone annotating screenshots. Captures can be marked with shapes, arrows and text; clipboard text or color information can also become pinned images. The Windows and Mac editions do not necessarily expose every option identically.

Installation and requirements

Mount the official Mac DMG and copy Snipaste.app to Applications, or use brew install --cask snipaste. The exact 2.11.3 DMG is 36,795,585 bytes. The official material confirms macOS support but an exact minimum macOS release, CPU coverage and RAM minimum for this artifact were not independently established. Screen size and the number of pinned images affect resource use; installed storage exceeds the compressed download.

Permissions and privacy

Grant macOS screen-capture permission when required for screenshots. Review any accessibility permission requested for detection or shortcut behavior instead of granting unrelated access. Screenshots can include passwords, private conversations and client information: inspect captures before saving or sharing them. Ordinary capture and pinning are local workflows; downloading updates, buying or activating Pro, and optional online OCR require network access. OCR through Tencent or OCR.space sends content to the selected external provider, so review its terms and credentials before using sensitive images.

Licensing and plans

Snipaste 2.x is proprietary and free for personal use only. The publisher says business use requires Snipaste 2.x Pro or Snipaste 1.x; free download is not an unrestricted commercial license. Desktop Pro covers Windows/Mac/Linux and allows up to three devices under the documented activation rules. The official Pro page lists US$19.99 and minor-version updates; current checkout, taxes and future-major-version terms govern the purchase. Microsoft Store licensing is a separate Windows edition. A basic local screenshot workflow does not require a collaboration account, while purchase and activation have their own requirements.

Version evidence and limitations

The official changelog provides exact entries for 2.11.3, 2.11.2 and 2.11. The 2.11.2 entry says only minor improvements; no specific fix is invented. Windows ARM64 and Windows 11 detection changes in 2.11 are not claims about the Mac binary. The linked image is a historical official Windows Custom snip dialog, not the Mac 2.11.3 interface. No verified usable official icon was obtained.
