pgAdmin 4
pgAdmin Development Team · Open-source PostgreSQL administration and development interface with SQL editing, data browsing, schema tools and monitoring.
Descripción
pgAdmin 4 is an open-source administration and development platform for PostgreSQL. It suits database administrators, application developers and analysts who want a graphical interface for exploring databases, writing SQL and managing database objects.
Main features
- Browse servers, databases, schemas, tables and other objects in Object Explorer.
- Write and run SQL in the Query Tool, inspect results and visualize execution plans.
- View and edit table data with a graphical data grid.
- Design schemas with the ERD Tool and compare schemas with Schema Diff.
- Monitor server activity and perform supported backup, restore and maintenance tasks.
- Use a local desktop runtime or a separately deployed multi-user web server.
Install and connect
Install the Mac application with brew install --cask pgadmin4, or download the official DMG, mount it and drag pgAdmin 4.app into Applications. Launch the application, register a server connection and supply the actual database host, port, database name and credentials or another supported authentication configuration. Connect to the registered server to browse objects and open the Query Tool. Database privileges determine which operations you can perform.
pgAdmin is a client and management interface, not the PostgreSQL database server. Install or obtain access to a PostgreSQL server separately. Local connections do not require a public network; remote servers must be reachable and appropriately secured. Saved database credentials may use the operating-system password store or the configured master-password mechanism. A pgAdmin server-mode login is distinct from a PostgreSQL login.
Requirements, dependencies and platforms
The current official macOS support table lists macOS 14 Sonoma, macOS 15 Sequoia and macOS 26 Tahoe for both Intel and Apple Silicon. Official DMGs are signed and notarized. The Homebrew snapshot advertises older macOS platform variants, but that does not override upstream's current supported-OS list; verify compatibility before using an older OS. The ARM64 9.18 DMG is 234,671,255 bytes, verified by HTTP Content-Length; transfer size is not installed space.
Version 9.18 officially supports PostgreSQL 14–18 and EDB Postgres Advanced Server 14–18, and bundles psql, pg_dump, pg_dumpall and pg_restore 18.4. Older server versions are outside the stated support range. Choose database utility versions appropriate for your server and backup/restore workflow. The cask declares no explicit additional formula dependency or cask conflict; this is not a claim that remote databases, optional services or every workflow need no dependencies.
Official distributions also include Windows, Linux DEB/RPM packages, Python packages and container images. Requirements depend on the chosen distribution and deployment mode; the Mac cask installs the desktop application, not a Linux container or shared server deployment. No universal RAM or installed-disk minimum was established. Optional AI features require separately configured providers and may involve sending data to those providers; they are not required for ordinary database administration.
Accounts, fees and license
The official pgAdmin application is free and open source under the PostgreSQL License. A commercial subscription or vendor account is not required to run the desktop app. Access to your database requires its configured credentials and permissions; hosting, commercial database services and optional external AI providers can have separate costs.
The official dashboard screenshot is a historical browser-mode example captured on macOS, showing server sessions, transactions, tuples and I/O. It is not presented as the current 9.18 desktop interface.
