Lunar
Alin Panaitiu · A Mac monitor-control utility for hardware brightness, volume, input switching and supported adaptive display modes.
Descripción
Lunar controls external displays from macOS, including hardware brightness through DDC/CI on supported monitors. It combines manual adjustments and hotkeys with adaptive modes for users working across several displays.
Features
- Adjust supported monitor brightness, contrast and volume.
- Switch monitor inputs using menus or hotkeys.
- Synchronize external brightness with supported built-in display behavior.
- Use supported location or external-sensor adaptive modes.
- Access display settings, resolutions and orientation controls.
- Use supported dimming and BlackOut functions where compatible.
Setup and compatibility
Version 6.11.0 requires macOS 12 or later and supports Intel and Apple Silicon. The older homepage compatibility banner is superseded by this release requirement. Install Lunar and test the controls on your monitor and connection: DDC/CI availability depends on the monitor, adapter and cable path. Software dimming is a fallback with different behavior from changing the actual backlight.
Basic functions are available free, with Pro features offered under a paid license and trial. Source code is available publicly. Check the current feature comparison before purchase. Advanced modes such as XDR brightness and BlackOut depend on hardware and macOS support; use comfortable brightness and preserve a recovery route when changing display state.
