Descripción

coconutBattery displays battery and device information for a Mac and connected iPhone or iPad. It suits people who want to compare present capacity with design capacity, record health over time and inspect charging behavior. Its figures are diagnostic readings and estimates, not a promise of remaining battery life or a substitute for hardware service.

Battery information and history

Inspect charge, full-charge capacity, design capacity, cycle count and supported device details. Save health information to the history viewer to compare measurements. The menu-bar display provides quick access to relevant data. Features depend on the device and data exposed by macOS or iOS; desktop Macs without a battery cannot supply laptop battery measurements.

The optional Plus edition adds features such as Wi-Fi device access, additional menu-bar details, a lifetime analyzer, advanced information, notifications and customized printing. A standard Plus license covers the current major generation, while a separate lifetime edition includes future Plus updates according to the publisher's current comparison. Free and paid features must not be described as identical.

Installation and inspected requirements

Download the official ZIP and copy coconutBattery.app into Applications, or use brew install --cask coconutbattery. The current 4.4.0 build 265 archive is 6,128,408 bytes. Read-only inspection confirms that exact version and build, minimum macOS 12.4 and a Universal arm64/x86_64 executable. The application is therefore compatible with Apple silicon and Intel hardware that meets the OS requirement. The website's broad macOS 12 label is less precise than the current artifact and official update feed.

The cask declares no additional formula dependency. For a connected iPhone or iPad, use an appropriate connection and complete any device trust or pairing prompt. Wi-Fi access is a Plus feature and requires the prior communication configuration described by the publisher. A device account or cloud subscription is not a universal prerequisite for reading the Mac's own battery.

Permissions, cost and connectivity

No mandatory coconutBattery account is described for basic diagnostics. The base utility is free, with proprietary paid Plus licenses; it is not established as open source. Activation, update checks and optional online functions can use a network. Reading a paired device can require authorization on that device. Notifications require permission if enabled; printing and exported reports use their own chosen destinations. Blanket Full Disk Access is not a general prerequisite merely to view battery data.

Data and interpretation

History and reports can expose serial numbers, model information, manufacture dates and usage patterns. Remove identifying details before sharing a screenshot or support report. Secure exported histories and back up important records before changing the app's data or migrating a Mac. Reinstalling the application is not a guaranteed secure deletion of history or backups.

Capacity varies with temperature, calibration, workload and reporting behavior. Avoid using one health percentage to diagnose a safety-critical battery condition. If a device is swollen, overheating or otherwise physically damaged, seek the manufacturer's service guidance. The current release adds OS 27 support and corrects history sorting; the checked feed does not document exact 4.3.4 changes, so that missing catalog entry is not replaced with 4.3.0 or 4.3.3 notes.
