Beschreibung

CoreLocationCLI is an open-source command-line utility that uses CoreLocation to print a device's physical location to standard output. It is intended to be composed with other tools or used for testing and logging, rather than as a graphical map application.

Output and live updates

The default output is latitude and longitude. Use --watch to keep printing location updates and stop with Ctrl-C. The --json option outputs the available location information as a JSON object, while --format selects individual fields. Supported fields include coordinates, altitude, speed, direction, horizontal and vertical accuracy, timestamps, reverse-geocoded address components, country code and time zone. --verbose enables debugging output.

macOS setup

The official README advises turning on Wi-Fi on Macs; otherwise the utility may report kCLErrorDomain error 0. macOS location permissions and security approval can affect execution. The Homebrew cask installs CoreLocationCLI.app and links its command-line executable. The bundled .app does not establish a standalone graphical interface.

Version scope

The latest three versions recorded by this catalog are 4.0.7, 4.0.6 and 4.0.4. The official 4.0.7 release is titled “Notarize and sign” but has no substantive release body; detailed changes are unavailable. Version 4.0.6 is described upstream as a rebuild to see whether it fixes problems, not a confirmed set of bug fixes. Version 4.0.4 documents embedded Info.plist and script changes for location permissions.
