Beschreibung

ClickHouse is an open-source column-oriented database designed for analytical workloads. This Mac cask installs the clickhouse command-line binary, not a desktop graphical app or a ClickHouse Cloud subscription. It is useful for developers, data engineers and analysts querying files, testing SQL and connecting to existing ClickHouse databases.

One binary, different workflows

The binary provides local, client and server modes. clickhouse local can query local or remote files using SQL without starting a database server. clickhouse client connects to a separately running server. Server mode can create a persistent database service when explicitly configured and started. Installing this cask does not automatically provision a managed database, start a background service or create a production cluster. The separate clickhousectl management tool is not declared as an artifact of this cask.

Analytics and data access

Use ClickHouse SQL for filtering, joins, aggregations and analytical queries. Local-mode table functions can access files or external data sources, subject to the formats, credentials and networking required by those sources. Persistent tables require appropriate server or local-path configuration; the default temporary local workflow is not a durable data store. Different processes must not share a locked local database directory concurrently.

Mac package

The recorded stable release is 26.9.12.8-stable, with separate Apple Silicon and Intel archives. The ARM64 ZIP is 222,156,345 bytes before extraction. Homebrew exposes the binary on its executable path. The cask declares no additional package dependencies or conflicts and does not specify an explicit macOS minimum in its dependency data; that is not a guarantee that every historical Mac system is supported. Use the build matching your CPU and review official installation guidance if macOS developer verification prevents launch.

Servers, permissions and resources

A remote connection needs a reachable endpoint, database credentials and appropriate query privileges; configure TLS for secure connections where supported. Starting a local server also requires deliberate choices about configuration, data directories, network listeners, authentication and resources. Large queries can consume substantial memory, CPU and disk space. Review SQL before data-changing operations and maintain backups independently of installation. Existing ClickHouse binaries can compete for the same executable name, and servers can conflict when sharing a data directory or listening port, even though the cask lists no package conflict.

Open source and cloud costs

The ClickHouse database is distributed under Apache License 2.0 and can be used locally without a ClickHouse Cloud account or software subscription. ClickHouse Cloud is a separate hosted service with its own account, trial, metered charges and deployment configuration. External storage and data services can also charge for access. The free database license does not include free cloud infrastructure or guarantee the same version schedule as the managed service.
