Beschreibung

BlockBlock is an open-source macOS security utility from the Objective-See Foundation. It monitors common persistence locations and alerts when software installs a component that will run again after login or restart. An alert is not proof of malware: legitimate applications also install persistent components, so users should examine the details before deciding.

Alerts and rules

Alerts identify the responsible process, its path and arguments, the modified persistence file and the item added. Code-signing information, process ancestry and links to VirusTotal results help users investigate. Allow or Block creates a rule unless the temporary option is selected. Blocking removes the persistent item from the file system. Rule scope can match combinations of process, persistence file and persisted item; the Rules window lets users inspect and delete saved decisions.

Additional protection

Optional Notarization mode blocks and alerts on non-notarized programs, normally downloaded programs; its All option broadens that scope. Downloaded-script blocking is a separate option. Paste Protection can block Terminal pastes to defend against ClickFix-style attacks, with optional heuristics that target suspicious clipboard contents. Decisions for notarization alerts are cached only until a restart rather than saved permanently across reboots.

Installation and permissions

The official product page lists macOS 10.15 or later. Run BlockBlock Installer.app from the downloaded ZIP and choose Install. The app uses Apple's Endpoint Security Framework, so installation requires system authorization and Full Disk Access. Paste Protection additionally requires Accessibility access for the helper. Once installed, BlockBlock starts again when the Mac restarts. Settings control protection options, alerts, menu-bar appearance and update checks; the status-bar menu provides an uninstaller.

Recorded version

Homebrew records 2.5.2, whose official release improves macOS 27 compatibility. This listing covers the exact BlockBlock cask, not another Objective-See security tool.

BlockBlock deinstallieren und Daten optional bereinigen

Befehl zum Deinstallieren
brew uninstall --cask blockblock

Eine normale Deinstallation entfernt die App, behält aber ihre Einstellungen und Caches.

Gründliche Bereinigung (optional)

Befehl zum Deinstallieren
brew uninstall --zap --cask blockblock
