Beschreibung

Affinity by Canva is a desktop creative application combining vector design, photo editing and page layout in one product. It is intended for designers, illustrators, photographers and publishers who want to work across disciplines without moving between separate Affinity applications. This Cask installs the current unified Affinity.app, not the older separately licensed Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher V1 or V2 applications.

Creative tools

Switch between Vector, Pixel and Layout studios or customize your workspace by combining tools and panels. Create scalable artwork with curves, shapes, fills and illustration tools; edit photographs with layers, masks, RAW development and non-destructive adjustments; and assemble multi-page publications with text styles, master pages and export controls. Import supported creative formats and export documents or selected objects for print and digital use. Format support does not guarantee perfect conversion of every file, font, plug-in or application-specific feature.

Current releases also offer script-based automation and integrations with Canva. Scripts run code and can alter documents or access resources; review their source and keep original project files backed up. Optional Canva AI features use connected services and depend on a qualifying Canva premium plan. They are separate from the free core creative tools and should not receive confidential client material without reviewing the relevant privacy and service terms. Fonts, stock assets and add-ons retain their own licenses.

Mac installation and requirements

Install the affinity Homebrew Cask or download and extract the official Mac ZIP and place Affinity.app in Applications. Official HEAD reports 1,038,524,487 bytes for the recorded 3.3.0 build 4850 ZIP. Download size is not installed storage or the space needed for documents, recovery files, fonts and assets.

The official download page requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or later and supports both Apple Silicon and Intel natively. It lists 4 GB RAM minimum, 8 GB or more recommended, 3.5 GB free storage and a 1280×768 minimum display. A mouse, trackpad or equivalent input device is needed. Windows has separate installers; the unified iPad product is still described as coming soon. The recorded Cask declares no numeric minimum or explicit conflict beyond macOS; its broad platform listing is not a substitute for the vendor requirements.

macOS may request access to protected folders when opening, importing or saving files. Grant permissions appropriate to your projects; ordinary editing does not imply that Accessibility, Screen Recording or full-disk access is universally required. Large documents and RAW processing can require additional memory and storage beyond the minimum. Keep an independent backup before migration: the new app opens files from V1 and V2, but those older apps cannot open documents created or saved in the new format.

Accounts, cost and legacy licenses

The current app's complete Vector, Pixel and Layout toolsets are free under proprietary Affinity/Canva terms. It is not open-source software. A verified Canva account is required for download and activation, including for free users. A premium Canva plan is not required for the core toolsets, but it is required for Canva AI features. Organization-managed access can depend on an administrator or SSO setup. Initial download and activation require internet access; after activation, ordinary desktop editing can continue offline for extended periods. Stock libraries, help, lessons, Canva integrations and AI can still require a connection.

Existing Serif Affinity V2 licenses remain valid and the official FAQ says activation servers will remain online, but V2 applications will not receive future updates. A prior perpetual V2 purchase is distinct from the new free Canva-account activation model. Previously purchased add-ons remain yours and can be linked to a Canva account. Do not assume the current unified app and V2 iPad can exchange newly saved files in both directions.
