WezTerm (Nightly)
Wez Furlong and contributors · The rolling development build of a GPU-accelerated terminal with tabs, panes, Lua configuration and multiplexing.
WezTerm (Nightly) is a Terminal & Shell app for Mac.
About
WezTerm nightly is the rolling development build of WezTerm, a GPU-accelerated terminal emulator and multiplexer written in Rust. It is aimed at developers and command-line users who want configurable terminal rendering, tabs, split panes and local or remote terminal sessions, and who accept the instability of unreleased code.
Terminal workflows
Run your existing shell and command-line tools, organize panes and tabs, and use Unicode, font fallback and configurable key assignments. Lua configuration controls appearance and behavior. WezTerm includes multiplexing and SSH-related workflows, but remote access still requires your server's credentials and network availability. It is a terminal frontend, not a replacement package manager, shell or full IDE.
Installation and compatibility
Extract the official nightly Mac ZIP and move WezTerm.app into Applications, or use brew install --cask wezterm@nightly. The inspected rolling ZIP is exactly108,942,972 bytes; its contents and size can change when the nightly tag is rebuilt. The official Mac installation guide describes universal Apple Silicon/Intel binaries and says builds should run on systems as old as macOS Mojave, with earlier versions untested. This is the guide's compatibility statement, not a separately verified minimum for every future nightly. A functioning graphics driver is important for accelerated rendering; rendering backends and font choices can affect performance. No fixed RAM minimum was established in the checked sources. Windows and Linux distributions are offered separately.
For command-line use, add the app's Contents/MacOS directory to your PATH if needed. Follow macOS prompts for the official downloaded app rather than disabling system protection globally. The installation guide explains that upgrading the rolling nightly cask may need an explicit greedy upgrade because the catalog version remains latest; check its instructions and avoid assuming an ordinary version comparison detects new contents.
License, accounts and permissions
WezTerm is MIT-licensed and free to use, subject to its license notice and third-party dependency licenses. Local shells do not require a WezTerm cloud account or network connection. SSH, remote multiplexing, downloaded configuration resources and updates involve their own connectivity or credentials. Terminal commands execute with your user's privileges, or higher privileges when you explicitly authorize them. Protected-folder access depends on what the shell and programs do; ordinary terminal use is not a blanket requirement for Accessibility or Screen Recording.
Nightly risks
Treat Lua configuration and shell snippets as executable code. Review configuration copied from unknown sources, protect SSH keys and secrets, and inspect commands before pasting them. A terminal can display sensitive output and allow destructive commands, so review logs before sharing them. Nightly behavior can regress without a stable release boundary; back up configuration and important work, and use the stable build if reliability is more important than new changes. The official screenshot illustrates a Mac terminal running a text editor; it is not tied to the current nightly.
The catalog exposes only the rolling latest version, not three distinct historical builds. No exact three-version changelog is invented for this mutable artifact.

Install and uninstall
Homebrew installs the app in your Applications folder.
Install without Homebrew
Download the same file Homebrew uses: github.com/wezterm/wezterm/releases/download/nightly/WezTerm-macos-nightly.zip
$ brew uninstall --cask \wezterm@nightlyA regular uninstall removes the app and keeps its settings and caches.
$ brew uninstall --zap --cask \wezterm@nightly--zap also deletes the settings, caches and other files listed in the Homebrew definition. They can include data shared with other apps and cannot be restored, and it does not guarantee that nothing is left.See which files are removed
